Why Florida Screens
Fail So Fast

Screen mesh is a polymer, and polymers break down under UV exposure. Sarasota's near-constant sun accelerates that breakdown far faster than it happens in less intense climates, and Gulf Coast salt air adds a second layer of degradation on top of it. The result: screens that would last a decade elsewhere can turn brittle, discolored, and prone to tearing within just a few years here โ€” especially on south- and west-facing exposures that catch the most direct sun.

Florida homes also use several different mesh types depending on location and purpose. Standard fiberglass mesh is the most common and most affordable, aluminum screening offers more durability against wear but shows corrosion near salt air, and tightly woven No-See-Um mesh is used on lanais and pool enclosures to block Florida's biting midges โ€” at the cost of some airflow. Knowing which mesh is on your home changes both the cleaning approach and what a proper repair looks like.

Complete Screen Care, Mesh Replaced Right

We remove every screen, hand-wash or machine-wash it depending on the mesh type and condition, and inspect the frame and spline before reinstalling. Torn or degraded mesh doesn't mean sourcing a separate repair company โ€” we take it back to our shop, replace the mesh and spline there, and have it back on your windows within 7 days.

  • Careful removal and reinstallation of every screen
  • Washed by mesh type โ€” fiberglass, aluminum, or No-See-Um
  • Mesh replacement and spline repair, 7-day shop turnaround
  • Frame condition checked and flagged โ€” our repair service is mesh replacement
  • Restores airflow and clarity of view
  • Available as add-on to any window cleaning service

Does This Sound Familiar?

Brittle, Discolored Mesh

Screens that have gone stiff, yellowed, or crack when touched โ€” a sign of UV breakdown that's usually a repair, not a wash.

Small Tears or Holes

Torn mesh lets bugs and pollen through and only gets worse โ€” we take the screen back to our shop, repair it, and have it back on your windows within 7 days.

Screen Popped Out of the Track

A screen that's loose or popped out of its track usually means the spline has worn through, which we address as part of a mesh replacement.

Bugs Getting Through

If tiny biting midges are getting into a lanai or pool enclosure, standard mesh may need to be upgraded to No-See-Um screening.

Reduced Airflow

Years of dust, pollen, and grime embedded in the mesh weave can noticeably choke airflow through a screen.

Corroded Aluminum Framing

Salt air near the coast can pit and corrode aluminum screen frames over time. We'll flag it during service โ€” frame repair falls outside our mesh replacement scope, but it's worth knowing about early.

What is No-See-Um mesh, and does my home need it?

No-See-Um mesh is a tightly woven screen fabric that blocks Florida's tiny biting midges, which pass right through standard fiberglass screening. It's common on lanais and pool enclosures near the coast and around Sarasota's bays, though it restricts airflow slightly more than standard mesh โ€” a tradeoff worth discussing for your specific property.

Why do screens go brittle and tear so quickly in Florida?

UV exposure breaks down the polymer in screen mesh over time, and Gulf Coast salt air speeds that breakdown further. Screens that would last a decade in a milder climate can turn brittle and tear-prone within just a few years here, especially on south- and west-facing exposures.

Can you fix a torn screen without replacing the whole panel?

In most cases, yes. If the frame is intact, we take the screen back to our shop, replace the mesh, and re-spline it there โ€” then return it to your windows within 7 days. No need to special-order a full replacement panel or use a separate repair company.

How long does screen repair take?

We take damaged screens back to our shop rather than repairing them on the spot, and turn them back around within 7 days. That gives us the right tools and setup for a clean spline and mesh replacement, and we'll coordinate reinstallation with you once it's done.
