Screen mesh is a polymer, and polymers break down under UV exposure. Sarasota's near-constant sun accelerates that breakdown far faster than it happens in less intense climates, and Gulf Coast salt air adds a second layer of degradation on top of it. The result: screens that would last a decade elsewhere can turn brittle, discolored, and prone to tearing within just a few years here — especially on south- and west-facing exposures that catch the most direct sun.
